Hometown Celebrations


The Stars and Stripes were flying high at Lights on the Lake

July 4th, the All-American holiday. The City of Sherman celebrated in style on July 3rd at the 7th annual Lights on the Lake event, featuring concerts by the Air Force Band and 38 Special, and a glorious fireworks display afterward. Food vendors and children's activities added to the festival atmosphere. City of Sherman employees pulled together every detail for a flawless event, and even the weather cooperated with an unexpected cool-down Most importantly, the evening provided a venue for all kinds of Americans to come together through music to honor the ideals of Independence Day. It was the best kind of hometown day.


On July 7th, another celebration comes to life around Sherman's Courthouse Square at Main Street Sherman's annual Christmas in July event. From 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., there's plenty of family fun! This children's festival starts with a Bicycle Parade, and features entertainment and lots of free craft and activity booths to give families a day of summertime fun. Santa will be there to greet kids of all ages, downtown merchants are open with prizes and more kid-friendly fun, and there’s a Hawaiian Shirt contest. Artists and entrepreneurs at Sherman-Off-the-Square will hold an open house to showcase their works, one block south of the Square on Travis Street.
