ABOUT SCD
Sherman Cultural District
LIVELY. WALKABLE. ENTERTAINING. CREATIVE.
In September 2018, the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) voted to designate Sherman as an official Texas Cultural District! Sherman celebrated at a ceremony and reception on November 30, 2018 with Dr. Gary Gibbs, executive director of TCA.
Since then, we're proud to have received four grants from the TCA to enhance the District and support events to bring visitors and residents to our unique cultural destinations.

The Sherman Cultural District represents both a geographic area, encompassing cultural sites, restaurants, museums and theaters, and a partnership, comprising the many arts and cultural groups that call Sherman home. Our partners are dedicated to advocating for and promoting the arts and humanities that represent our community. The Cultural District Advisory Council works closely with key partners including Austin College, Sherman Main Street, and Downtown Sherman NOW. Questions or comments about this program? The Sherman Cultural District Brand

Thanks to a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, wayfinding signs and a unique "Welcome" sign direct visitors to arts and culture destinations throughout downtown Sherman. The colorful stained glass medallion seen on the Sherman Welcome sign at Travis and U.S. 75 depicts the beautiful mix of colors that capture the creative spirit of the District. In addition, its typography aligns with the City of Sherman's brand and other official entities representing Sherman. The SCD's logo designs mimic the ironwork railings on Kidd-Key Auditorium -- our city's historic public space for the performing arts.
