Music lovers, take note: the 2023 Sherman Jazz Classic is set for April 14-16, 2023, and it's going to be the biggest weekend yet for the festival. For the first time, the event will offer multiple events each day, in some of Sherman's most exciting venues.
Start the weekend at the amazing Sherman Jazz Museum with the Speakeasy Gala presented by Douglass Distributing. This ticketed event creates a Roaring-20s style evening with heavy hors d'oeuvres, libations, and live dance music, set among the dazzling array of collections and jewel-tone rooms of the Jazz Museum.
On Saturday, events all day are FREE: Enjoy the High School Jazz Band Showcase during the morning at the Oliver Dewey Mayor Outdoor Stage at Kidd-Key Park. Starting at noon, the Jazz Classic Main Stage takes over, featuring eight outstanding community big bands playing back-to-back in historic Kidd-Key Auditorium. Special guest Brave Combo will play the late day intermissions. Saturday's events also include Jazz Jams on the Kidd-Key lawn, beignets and coffee offered by Cupcake & Company; a high school Album Cover Art Show, and Open House all day at the Sherman Jazz Museum.
On both Friday and Saturday evenings, downtown restaurant Old Iron Post will feature Jazz After Dark, with two different jazz combos in the spotlight (no cover). OIP also will host a Sunday Gospel Jazz Brunch, the final event of the weekend, with a New Orleans-style menu to go with it.
