Our Cultural District Advisory Council is excited about BIRDS! Sherman is lucky to have Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge as our neighbor, and this remarkable habitat brings hundreds of birds to our city and area throughout the year. So what could be better inspiration for art than our feathered friends?
Our team has proposed a series of sculptures for Downtown Sherman based on some of the iconic birds that frequent our city. We're very pleased to partner with the local artists, Bluestem Master Naturalist Chapter of Grayson County, and Hagerman NWR for this project.
We're even planning a bird festival in spring 2026 to celebrate the unveiling of the new public art. The special event will also highlight the magic of spring migration of birds of all kinds, with activities, art exhibits, unique food and beverage experiences, and family fun both in Downtown and the Refuge. Stay tuned as the ideas take flight and we reveal what's planned at Sherman Arts Fest 2025 on September 20, Lucy Kidd-Key Park.
