ABOUT US
Sherman Cultural District
LIVELY. WALKABLE. ENTERTAINING. CREATIVE.
In September 2018, the Texas Commission on the Arts (TCA) voted to designate Sherman as an official Texas Cultural District! Sherman celebrated at a ceremony and reception on November 30, 2018 with Dr. Gary Gibbs, executive director of TCA.
Now in 2020, several new developments have added more excitement to the cultural district. Read the Herald Democrat's update here, and more about the economic impact of the district.
The Sherman Cultural District represents both a geographic area, encompassing cultural sites, restaurants, museums and theaters, and a partnership, comprising the many arts and cultural groups that call Sherman home. Our partners are dedicated to advocating for and promoting the arts and humanities that represent our community. The Cultural District Advisory Council is hosted by Austin College in cooperation with the City of Sherman. Questions or comments about this program? Email shermanarts@austincollege.edu.

EXTENDING OUR NEW BRAND 2.0
Thanks to a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, new wayfinding signs featuring our updated logo will be installed throughout the Cultural District to direct visitors to arts and culture destinations. Expected date of installation for the proposed signs is first quarter 2021. This is the next step of our logo/brand refresh, courtesy of Jared Tredway, member of the Cultural District Advisory Board. The colorful medallion has evolved to a beautiful mix of colors that capture the creative spirit of the District. In addition, its typography now aligns with the City of Sherman's brand and other official entities representing Sherman. The SCD's original and revised logo designs mimic the ironwork railings on Kidd-Key Auditorium -- our city's historic public space for the performing arts.
