"Memories of East Mulberry Street"
The Story
The Andrews Building was a large commercial building, located in the 200 block of E. Mulberry Street, that housed numerous Black professional offices and businesses over its life before being destroyed by fire in the race riot of 1930. Other small businesses also lined the blocks going east from Walnut Street. Those in and around the Andrews Building included:
Three restaurants Pool hall Law Offices
Pharmacy Movie theater Physician offices
Tailor Funeral parlor Grocer
Shoe Store Presser Dental office

About the Artist and Art
This piece was created by Cultural District board members in a collaborative effort to memorialize the Black professional community that thrived along East Mulberry Street, starting in the block east of the Sherman Public Library.
