BIG SHERMAN NEWS!
**************************

NEW GREEN LINE VENUE

I am going to be booking shows at a new Green Line location at 45th and Locust. We will be hosting a few shows there in the summer, and then going to a regular schedule booking eight shows a month starting in the fall. The space will be set up more as a venue with permanent sound, etc. It will also fit about 75-100 people (more with tables removed for larger national acts) Its about twice the size as the Green Line on 43rd and Baltimore. As of November I won't be booking at any other venues.

LOOKING FOR PROMOTERS/ ORGANIZERS

I will be running the venue more as a director of the space. Meaning that I be looking for other promoters/ bands to run shows in the space. I am willing to walk you through it if you haven't booked a show before. We will be doing approx. 5-6 music shows, and 1-2 open mics/ poetry/ dj nights. I will have a few monthly/bi-monthly spots but also looking for people to just put on a show on occasion. I will also be looking for bands to book line-ups, and will have some opportunities for show trades. The way it will work is I will work with you in putting on the show. You can charge and keep 100% of the door after $25- gets payed for sound. We may take a small 10-15% after that from the door for shows that involve more work. We cannot charge for every show, and cover will be determined case by case, and keep in mind, we don't book anything too loud (as in metal/ loud hard rock/ loud noise shows) I book 2-6 months ahead of time. I also ask that acts that are playing not book other competing shows within 7-12 days depending on show. This may also apply to promoters.

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS/ UNOFFICIAL INTERNS

I have been doing this on my own for a long time, and I need help! I need people to run shows, design flyers, post flyers, find acts to play, book nights, send mailings, update websites, etc. If you are interested please email me at
richardmwexler@yahoo.com
I am also looking for anyone who would like a more involved role in the running of Sherman Arts. I pay people when I can, but these opportunities are more of a learning experience.

HELP BUILDING LIST AND SITE/ EVENTS

I am looking to re-build the list. I went to a myspace model over the past year or two and have been trying to rebuild the list ever since. You can join here. I post a weekly DIY/ Grassroots list of events

http://groups.google.com/group/sherman-arts

PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO ANYONE WHO MAY WISH TO JOIN
You can also post events to the list. I ask that you send info about 7-14 days before an event. Also feel free to send me links to your band/ organization, etc. I ask that it fits in the loose category of DIY, Grassroots. Bands are exempt from that. send to

PAPER MAGAZINE
"There's a sinister tenderness to this L.A. trio's sad, soft, gorgeous folk. Comprised of Abigail and Lily Chapin (daughters of children's music notable Tom, nieces of 70's legend Harry) and Jessica Craven (daughter of horror director Wes, stepdaughter of Tom), the Chapin Sisters use eerie harmonies to great effect in their meditations on love lost and losing. Their full-length debut opens with all three singing in unison "My baby hates me, and it's nobody's fault but mine." That track, "Let Me Go," sets the album's mood and tone - think suicidal. There's "Kill Me Now" for instance, a tidily cheerless number on which they implore "Don't wanna live sad and lonely, no no/ So go get a rock and just stone me." Depressing, sure, but cathartic in a neurasthenic sort of way too - there's something enjoyable about the way the sisters spread their misery. Standouts include "Can't We Please," an appeal to an ex-boyfriend for mercy ("My demons they dance/ On the bones of our romance"); "Don't Love You," in which they inform a potential suitor that, despite how they might act, they're not really interested in love, they're probably just drunk; and "Girlfriend" where they repeatedly explain to a crush how they "Don't like your girlfriend." The stories marry well to their elegant balladry, and the sisters' neo-Victorian sensibilities add up to a lingering, almost ghostly result. This is after-dark music that's meant to creep you out. And it does." -Jonathan Durbin

PEPI GINSBERG

(Park The Van Records)

Folk / Pop / Psychedelic

NPR.org, May 14, 2008 - Pepi Ginsberg has a distinctively mournful voice with a remarkable range. On her latest CD, Red she croons with a weathered and passionate warble about her inner demons (real or imagined), sleeping with strangers, getting high, and starting anew. She's a kind of troubadour for the 21st century, gracefully channeling '60s psychedelic pop and folk and retooling it to fit her own imaginative stylings.
Red is full of off-kilter rhythms and unexpected instrumentation. Spare violins dance woozily with bleating trumpet lines and shuffling rhythms. Fuzzy guitars take a walk with reedy organs. The mood is melancholy one moment, joyous and celebratory the next. The mix is sonically ambitious without overwhelming the heart of the songs, due in no small part to producer Scott McMicken, frontman for the Philadelphia-based psych-rock group Dr. Dog.
When Ginsburg arrived home from a tour last Summer she found a note in a bottle on her doorstep from McMicken, asking if she'd like to record a song together. What initially started as a one-off recording turned into an entire album. "The Waterline" was the first track they did together.
"It was just a composite of things that were brewing in my head as I walked around the city," says Ginsberg. "It's a really city-centric song, feeling an affinity for St. Mark's church, I'd walk by there and some girl (was) tripping on some kind of acid jaunt outside there with her hands held up. She was on a whole other level and I don't know what she was doing. It's a little bit of an adventure story. It's not necessarily about water but the idea that things could be overwhelming, but you're going to feel the pull of it whether you're drowning or staying afloat."
Red is Ginsberg's third release. Her debut, in 2005, was the self-produced and recorded Orange Juice:Stephanie/Stephanie. She followed with Sometime Momma/Sometime Babe in 2006, an album she recorded in the bathroom of her Brooklyn, NY apartment.
Ginsberg has been writing feverishly since completing Red and is currently touring in support of the album.

San Antonio, Texas
Hacienda is a four piece from Boerne, Texas. Comprised of three brothers and a cousin, they blend a raw yet sophisticated style of music with harmonies reminiscent of the Beatles and Beach Boys. They started by playing locally at clubs in San Antonio, Texas.
After writing, producing and engineering a six song demo in their home, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys soon got behind them and pushed them to finish the album by themselves, secluded from the outside world.
The result is a collection of songs with integrity and soul to spare. Recorded in Akron, Ohio alongside producer Dan Auerbach and featuring members of Dr. Dog, the band has managed to collect an array of musical styles. From the swinging beat of “Shake Ya” to the walking bass line of “Little Girl” there’s just something about Hacienda. Hacienda has taken off with a sound all their own. There is no telling what will come next from this Texas four piece, but rest assured it is bound to keep your toes tapping, your hips shaking, and your eyes wide open.

The Roadside Graves were slipped out after a long road trip across America. A few of us were tired of driving and stopped in a small town for dinner. A typical meat and potatoes diner in the town of Salina, Utah. The only interesting thing about the place was it's sign. After the meal we stopped in a bar to buy package goods to help us through another night of tents and rain. We met a bartender, her sister in law, and a few of the locals. We spent the whole night in Salina, Utah. There were a few marriage proposals, a few dances on a pool table, and some lost chances. After that night we had a song, "Song for a Dry State" and well we needed a band.

Josh Olmstead is a Philadelphia-based rock and roll artist. His debut solo album Charms has won accolades for its hand-made, down-home, '70's infused approach to folk-pop, while his live show continues to delight audiences with its roadhouse spontaneity, gospelesque peaks and valleys and atmospheric, visceral appeal to all five senses. In concert, Josh Olmstead is backed by a five-piece band featuring Jim Dalton (slide guitar), Matt Emkey (piano & organ), Kevin O'Neill (bass), Matt Scarano (drums) and the occasional special guest artist. Scan the stage at a Josh Olmstead gig and you will likely be perplexed by the assortment of eccentric looking guitar amplifiers, guitar straps and bellbottoms - that's because the band promotes its own, homemade line of amps and accessories!

i’d like to begin by saying that i believe in songs so much. i believe in the stories and the feelings they convey. i believe in them the way some believe in a good night’s sleep or a well paying job or the way a scientist might dedicate his life to some certain insect. i’ve been thinking in song for a little long while now. i love rhythm and i adore melody and lyrics are my jawn. in fact, the more time goes on the more enamored i am with music. every time i play or witness someone play i feel as though a rich tradition is passing between us, a transmission in moments given to infinity. sometimes i am regretful that i wasn’t around or am not going to be around for everything (i would have really liked to see buddy holly play not fade away live!) but i’m starting to feel now that i am those, these, and others, and the transmission continues and i feel the spirit and give back. days become easier when i harness this energy and let go, a thing called “thanksliving.” i feel blessed to have this life and even more so to have songs to sing in it. you can find me singing them in many places and i hope that sometime somewhere i may sing them to you…..follow your bliss, birdie busch
Ann Enzminger spent her early years in Texas singing on Austin street corners and with many ill-fated traveling bands and revues. She finally settled in New York City in the early part of this century and through a series of seemingly unrelated events and a small stint in Drama school she met Nick Nace. Nick had come in to town, not long after Ann, on a slow train from Canada's northlands. It was a crisp October afternoon when he first laid eyes upon his new home, the sun was shining, the sky was happy and the golden leaves and yellow taxicab's spun together in autumnal glory.
The Extraordinaires are aptly named. Eager fans might recommend the band's sing-songy storybook pop as an appropriate soundtrack for everything from roller skating to Pee-wee's Playhouse to Barnum and Bailey.
Not content to do anything the ordinary way; this South Philly fivesome insists on making everything an extraordinary production. Hence, instead of a CD, the band produced a 36-page hardcover illustrated book; instead of straight shows, they offer mini musical reviews, complete with costumes, story lines and inter-musical monologues. A song is not a song unless it's dripping with puns and stuffed full of mandolin, and there’s no such thing as a too many bear hats.
That's not to say that the band is a novelty act, in fact far from it. Rather, they've taken off in the same quirky circus rock direction as friends and tour mates Man Man, and have attracted many a critical eye while doing so. Experts have drawn comparisons to Captain Beefheart, Ben Folds, Neutral Milk Hotel and the Decemberists, and we'd throw Simon and Garfunkel, the Lilys and Menomena into the mix as well.
And while these dudes craft many a catchy melody, what we love most about them is their creative energy, which always keeps us guessing.

There are so many bands out of Brooklyn these days it's almost hard to believe that there's anyone living there that isn't toting around a guitar or working on some obscure indie label. The quality and variety as of late though has been impressive - so go ahead and add Tavo Carbone to your list. Playing with a long list of rotating musicians, Carbone makes the type of subtle glockenspiel-laden old-timey pop that simultaneously makes you feel like you are both in the past and the future."- ...says www.lawrence.com of Kansas.
Tavo Carbone is a native of Brooklyn, NY. These are a few of his songs. Over the years, Tavo (voice, ac.guitar, piano, pump organ) has been fortunate enough to collaborate with many talented individuals and friends.
From ages 18-23, Tavo recorded albums in his bedroom on a Tascam 4-track machine. A large body of songwork was demo'ed; some of which would later appear on the 2007 studio releases, 2/3 Skeleton and Forward: Live at Greenwall Auditorium
Helios Eye is incredible... It feels like some cross between a Sam Beam (of Iron & Wine) and Kurt Cobain demo tape made today. It has the folksiness of Sam Beam, especially with the banjo, with the raw emotional writing of Cobain at his best. The lyrics are decidedly dark with things like "there are sections of I-95 that make you want to take your own life." The flipside is that when Kevin, the man behind Helios, turns manic it's incredible. Even the darkest lyrics have some sunshine line as everyone screams along, "and I feel sooo dirty!" There's one song with particularly poignant lyrics that they closed with that I can't recall the words too, especially since my iPod is out of service and unfortunately I can't pull it up 'cause someone spilled coffee on the iPod (props to iPodResQ, btw, for fixing it fast and cheap). Stop into Inertia Books & Records and pick up his album "The Karmic Debt of the Bugs We Step On." Lo-Fi at it's finest, it was recorded in a Riverside kitchen and has the same acoustics of singing in your shower. It even comes with a handwritten letter to YOU, the consumer.
"Soft People make their proper debut with the self-released The Vapors, an aptly named swirl of influences obscure yet unimpeachable. Everyone will hear something different, but fans of Vintage Violence-era John Cale, post-Swell Maps Nikki Sudden, and early King Crimson will surely lap it up like so much acid-laced milk.
Though costume changes seem to come with every song, the band’s basic engine is a droning, jangled, cosmic psych-pop that straddles terrestrial songwriting and intergalactic bliss. There’s French singing in “The Vapors,” fluffy horns on “Sugarmama” and lurid tinges of spaghetti Western in the middle of “Concentration.”
Once The Vapors starts making the rounds, Soft People’s currency will grow exponentially. Funny how making a bravura psych masterpiece can do that."
We're in the home stretch--- Camp is just six weeks away!!! We can only make it happen with YOUR support!
We've planned two more happy hours to help us raise some last minute funds, and to celebrate how far we've come towards our goal of providing a happy and healthy leadership experience for Philadelphia girls.

PLEASE JOIN US ON:

TUESDAY JULY 1 from 5:30 - 7:30 pm at DEVIL's ALLEY (1907 Chestnut Street). There will be food and drink specials. $10 suggested donation- goes entirely towards camp needs.

AND

THURSDAY JULY 17 from 6 - 8 pm at the IRISH PUB (1123 Walnut Street). There will be food and drink specials and LIVE MUSIC. Famous public defenders Shawn Nolan, Vic Abreu, and Dave Zuckerman have agreed to play for us that evening. It's guaranteed to be a good time! $15 suggested donation again goes entirely towards camp needs.

Finally: we are trying to gather together supplies from all of you, our supporters, to help cut our costs. Please consider donating: art supplies; outdoor gear (sunblock, bug lotion, rain gear, flashlights, batteries, tents); gently used clothing (for the camper who forgot her jacket, or her bathing suit, or her socks, etc.). We could also really use a computer for our office- if anyone has one in relatively good condition that they are ready to pass on, please contact us.

We hope to see you there! Thanks again for all of your support!
PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD!

I HOUSE PRESENTS
"WRECKING BALL" Benefit
International House prepares for a new era with “The Wrecking Ball”

After over twenty years of hosting unique films and some of the most innovative concerts in Philadelphia , the theater at International House Philadelphia (IHP) is getting a major facelift. Thanks to a very generous gift from Board member SA Ibrahim and his wife Nina, IHP will soon boast one of the most attractive and comfortable theaters in the area. The Ibrahims’ gift, together with funds from the City’s recent Cultural Bond Issue and an anonymous donor, provided the resources to complete this major transformation. Renovations include new acoustic panels, sound and lighting upgrades, roof repairs, floor refinishing and NEW SEATS.

Before the old theater closes its doors for this project, IHP will celebrate on Friday, July 18th at 8pm with an evening of dancing and revelry. For all of those who have put up with the now infamous seats, this is our opportunity to thank you as well as a chance to say goodbye to the old space in anticipation of the brand new theater (with a brand new name) that opens in the fall.

The Wrecking Ball is a free event featuring food, a cash bar, music provided by DJ hi-res (host of WPRB’s The Ghetto Blaster) and visuals provided by Secret Cinema’s Jay Schwartz. There will also be opportunities to purchase a seat in the new theater as well other ways to contribute.

To learn more about this and other International House Philadelphia events, please visit www.ihousephilly.org.

ALL EVENTS TAKE PLACE AT:

No Age are currently on tour in support for their new album Nouns, released on Sub Pop.
You can't throw a stone without hitting a rave review for the new record, but in the words of one of our DJs:

"Much more accessible than some of Weirdo Rippers; [consisting of] loud guitar fuzz mixed up with poppy/punk vocals.
Play this album!"

Stay tuned to WPRB -- you can win tickets to this show!

Also on the bill are High Places, and Abe Vigoda.
Both of them are pretty fantastic, so make sure to get there early and check them out!

CALL FOR MUSICIANS

I am not sure how many of you have heard of the Center City District's Gallery night which is a night of open galleries in Center City. The next event is scheduled for Friday October 17th and we would like to expand this event to include musicians and/or performers that would be located at about 4 spots. The galleries are mostly between Broad and 21st Streets. We would have a whole selection/audition process to choose people as well. In some cases, a link to your music and website might suffice.

The last event held in April had galleries reporting approximately 4,600 patrons so this would be a great way to increase exposure to your work. You can hand out flyers to your next gigs and we would also include you on the event listing on the Cultural Alliance's "phillyfunguide" website: http://www.phillyfunguide.com
Please keep in mind that this would not be a paid event as we are a non-profit BID (business improvement district: http://www.centercityphila.org) and thus make NO PROFITS and all galleries participate solely at their own expense. Our main objective with this event is to hopefully showcase to a new, unintitiated audience more of what the city's artists have to offer.

Feel free to pass this message on to musicians/performers you might know and call me or email me at my Center City District address with any questions. See contact info below:

BOOKING INFORMATION FOR SHERMAN ARTS
***********************************************************

ABOUT SHERMAN BOOKING and WHAT WE BOOK
(BANDS MUST BE WILLING TO NOT PLAY OTHER SHOWS IN PHILADELPHIA AREA WITHIN 10-12 DAYS ON BOTH ENDS)
Below is a breakdown of how to get a show, and various requirments based on venue.
BOOKING AT GREEN LINE CAFE
*********************************

1. NO LOUD BANDS!
NO LOUD BANDS! NO LOUD BANDS! PLEASE SERIOUSLY, NO LOUD BANDS. It's a SMALL coffee shop and is surrounded by GLASS.
We actually had to stop a band from playing (2 songs into their set), and tell them to leave the other night. I don't wish to have to ever do that again.

2.WHAT WE BOOK AND WHAT WE DON'T
I book grass roots/ community based events. I spend lots of time curating these shows and only book bands/performers that I feel are original, talented, and worthy of showcasing. I don't get paid much for these shows and am mostly just trying to give performers a smoke free/ drunk free/ and attentive audience. I attempt to book mostly Philla. acts but usually mix the booking with a band from out of town (SEE BELOW FOR OUT OF TOWN BOOKING), or another area of Philly.
I do not book strictly singer songwriters. I find it to be rather clique to only book singer/songwriters because its a coffee shop. Also I have much competition from the WXPN (Live at World Cafe) venue so I book mostly Electronic/ Avant Garde/ Jazz/ Indie Rock/ Psych folk/ etc. We have a reputation for booking some higher end acts such as Greg Weeks (from the Espers), The Baird Sisters (Meg and Laura of The Espers), Scott McMicken (of Dr. Dog), and Danbert Nobacon (of Chumbawamba), The Impossible Shapes, Peter and The Wolf, The Castanets, Jana Hunter, so if you get a show you are in good company.
I need to get a CD in order to consider booking. I can usually not book an act, from myspace page. If you do not have the means to do this please come send me a cassette tape of yourself playing. We book 2-3 months ahead of time, so please do not ask to book a show without at least 6 weeks notice.
I WILL DO MY BEST TO RESPOND TO EACH SHOW BUT CAN'T PROMISE A RESPONSE. I get many requests and can't respond to all of them.

3. BOOKING OUT-OF-TOWN BANDS
I can only book out of town bands if there is already a local act booked for that night, or you have a good 20-30 folk draw. So it's best if you contact local bands who may wish to do a show trade with you (LOOK AT MY MYSPACE FREINDS FOR POSSIBILITIES). It may also be good to offer a show trade. There are times that I can book a local act with draw, but it always works best when the bands know each other. I CAN NO LONGER BOOK BANDS WHO ARE ON TOUR TOGETHER (UNLESS YOU HAVE A LOCAL CONNECTION) OR SOMEONE WHO WILL HELP BRING FOLKS TO SEE YOU. The other option is if you have a local connection and someone can help get you an audience. We are not the kind of venue folks just come to. I find that when we do shows with out-of-town bands without any connection to the local bands, it just doesn't work. I CAN MAKE AN EXCEPTION IF YOU HAVE A FOLLOWING. BANDS WITH A GOOD FOLLOWING CAN ALSO CHARGE AT DOOR AND GET 100% OF THE DOOR. WE HAVE HAD NATIONAL ACTS COME THROUGH AND MAKE MORE MONEY THAN IF THEY PLAYED A BAR VENUE.

3.MONEY
I can no longer do cash guarantees to out of town band without any following. I can sometimes offer a $40 dollars (but it is not a guarantee), which is based on folks being asked who thay are there to see. It is based on bringing out 20 folks (who pay $2 cover). The money is pro-rated if it is less. IF YOU HAVE A FOLLOWING YOU CAN MAKE OUT WELL. WE CHARGE HIGHER COVERS FOR MORE KNOWN ACTS and ACTS GET ENTIRE DOOR. I have been able to offfer $30-$150 guarantees based on the draw of band, and based on you not playing other shows in Philadelphia. If we book an local band with you. We will give them a very small percentage. This is based on the concept of Show Trades.

4. CONTACTING ME
(I can no longer communicating via Myspace with bands. It gets to confusing. Please email me at richardmwexler@yahoo.com for booking (AND SPECIFY WHICH VENUE)
BAND AGREEMENTS FOR GREEN LINE CAFE
1. NO OTHER SHOWS CLOSE TO BOOKING DATE
Please NO SHOWS (in Philly area) 10-12 days before and after a show. I understand this may seem extreme but remember it is your choice to play the show. A show with no people sucks for everybody. If this agreement is broken, I have the right to cancel the show.
2. PROMOTION
The acts agree to do minimal promoting via website/ myspace. All I ask is that you at least send info about the show via myspace, and your website to folks in the Phila area. I hold the right to cancel a show if this is not followed through with.
3. PLEASE COMMUNICATE WITH YOUR BAND
I usually book shows through one member of the band. Please communicate the agreement we have with members of the band. I have had trouble with various members of bands asking for pay/ etc. when that was never part of the agreement.
4. CANCELATION
I understand that bands cancel. I book shows 2-3 months in advance for this reason. If a band cancels for reasons deemed as negligent, I may not book the band for at least 6 months.
5. LANGUAGE
Since the venue is all ages we refrain form any use of bad language. Please substitute any bad words, or do other songs.
PROMOTER AGREEMENT
1. PROMOTION
I will do make flyers for each show at least 3-4 weeks prior to a show, and have copies available for the show. I will post the show info on www.shermanarts.org/ and myspace under events at least 2-3 weeks prior. I will also flyer in the West Philly area, and surrounding areas if appropriate. I will send press releases to the local media if appropriate. I will also post the show under Sherman Arts site at myspace. The shows will be posted at the Green Line Cafe.
2. SHOW SET UP
I book 2-3 acts. I will have the out of town band usually play last. Each band gets up to 30-45 mins to play. Set up is always 45 min- 1 hr. before the show. Special arrangements can be made if this wont work.
3. QUIET SPACE
I will do my best to make sure you perform in a quiet attentive room. I ask people who are loud to please be quiet and respectful, or to please leave

DONATIONS TO SHERMAN
***************************
Sherman Community Arts functions as a collabortaion of sorts. I work in a manner that allows Musicians and Artists certain freedoms that other venues, promoters do not. I work directly with various local artists and musicians as a client driven consulting and promotions. I spend many hours working with various artists & musicians helping them set up tours, shows, cd productions etc.

I also post a ongoing events page that promotes local grass roots events and helps promote the work of many local organizations inlcuding Spiral Q Puppet Theater, The Rotunda, and many more. Over the last year I have put out the Sherman Arts Compilation, which was about a years worth of work.
It was picked by A.D Amorosi as one of 2005's best local cd's of the year, and was featured in articles in City Paper, Philly Weekly, Daily News, and reviewed by Philadelphia magazine. I have also held fundraising events for such organizations as Spiral Q, and for individuals and organizations in need. I was able to help raise approximately $5000 in the past year alone that went directly to these groups or individuals. I am currently working with Joshua Marcus (of Fan of Friends and Like Moving Insects) and helping him promote and plan his musical endeavors. I am currently working on producing a tour for Doctor and Philip in the Summer, as well as revamping the website to include representing many of the great works by local artists and musicians.

My work at The Green Line Cafe series has led to a very succesful series of extremely talented musicians. I have just completed a series of shows working with Danbert Nobacon (of Chumbawamba fame), and host five shows a month at both Green Line cafes. We have started a very successful Open Mic on the 3rd Sundays of each month. This work is a full time job that I don't get paid much for (although I am compensated well by the Green Line Cafe) It is a labor of love but in the same way, donations would make this work much easier. My future plans involve a five year compilation project, and on line magazine with musical and arts advisors including Jon Solomon of WPRB, Seth Jaquay of WHYME Podcast, A.D Amorosi (City Paper), Doug Wallen (Philly Weekly), Samatha Barrow (local poet), and Gina Renzi (of the Rotunda) to name a few. I will be putting out a local on line comp each year for sale as a download. The next few years will also be spent fundraising to open up my own space. This space will be primarily a performance space for films and music, as well as provide services to local artists and musicians including performance and rehearsal space, and equipment to produce Music and Video as well as general resources for organizers. I cannot do this work without money so however small or large a donation you can make will help these plans become a reality. I believe that the work I have done speaks for itself, and you can donate something to the cause. Please read the press below to understand more about Sherman Arts.

Sherman Podcast Mission: Statement
The Podcast was created to help promote some of the best and most interesting music in Philadelphia. I have also included some out of town bands that I have done shows with over the last year or two. The general idea is to create connections and community within these bands. I chose the free podcast format because of the fact that it could be easily spread throughtout the Internet.

THANK YOU'S
I wanted to thank the following folks for help with the podcast; Seth Jacquay, who put in many hours of volunteer work to create the site, and podcast. All of the bands who gave me permission to use thier songs, as well as the hard work they put it to promote this project. Josh Jones from Univox for some Interview time. A.D Amorosi for the release show and general support (for myself and continued support for many of the bands on the comp, and other Philly bands in general) The Philadelphia Weekly, In Liquid, The Green Line Cafe and staff.
I have taken my shirt off in a photo booth and taken pics on various
occasions. I though it be funny to start an art project that asks
people to go to a photo booth take shirt off and post the pics. The
idea is more for fun as well as finding innapropriate places to do
this and send in the story (i.e. Family arcades, churches, bars, etc.)
If you wish to be part of this

SEND A PIC AND THE STORY OF HOW YOU CAME TO TAKE THE PICS
to takeyourshirtoffinaphotobooth@yahoo.com

or mail originals to
Rich Wexler
c/o photo booth
4725 Baltimore Ave.Apt. 1
Phila. PA 19143

Photos will be made posted online, poss made into zine/book and poss
an art show The Results will posted on a different site (there will be
family freindly versions posted here but others will be posted
elsewhere and linked)

PLEASE NO ONE UNDER 21, If I think you are under 21, I will not post
the pics. I am just wishing to do a fun art project not go to jail for
child pornography charges.

SINGLE OR COUPLES: GAY, STRAIGHT, TRANS, MEN, WOMEN, PETS, ARE ALL
WELCOME.. (PLEASE NO REPUBLICANS) If I think you are a republican I
will not post your photos.

MISSION
The point of this is not to collect a bunch of MARDI GRAS TYPE PICS of
ladies/men taking off thier tops.

It's an ART PROJECT
so here are some sugggested rules

1. BE CREATIVE (ie. Maybeyou make a shirt of bra out of other pics
you've taken.

2. HAVE FUN (again it.s more about what you can get a way with without
getting arrested)

3. NO POSTING GIRLS GONE WILD TYPE PICS....Sorry this is not going to
be a project for pervy men/women to jack to....PICS DO NOT HAVE TO BE
NUDE.

4. Pics will be loaded onto FLICKR and you will need to sign on and prove you are 18. Plus they wont be able to be pulled off the sherman site. The pics now are samples and can be taken off.

5. SPREAD THE WORD
Pics will be posted at http://www.shermanarts.org/blog.html

*SCRIBE VIDEO

SCRIBE VIDEO CENTER, a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization, was founded in 1982 as a place where people could work together and gain skills in media making. Scribe Video Center seeks to explore, develop and advance the use of video as an artistic medium and as a tool for progressive social change. "Scribe" is a metaphor for the use of video as a modern medium to record significant contemporary concerns and events.
Central to our mission are efforts to reach communities that traditionally have not had access to video training or production facilities. We engage people of color, women, young people, senior citizens, and those with limited economic resources in a dialogue about the potential of the video medium. Scribe offers workshops in Camera and Lighting, Linear and Non-Linear Editing, Sound Recording, 16 mm Film Production, Scriptwriting for fiction and documentary films, and Oral History Production. Scribe also offers artist's services such as fiscal sponsorship, equipment rental, and editing facilities.
Our on going programs include Community Visions, a video production program for community organizations; Street Movies, a free outdoor neighborhood-based screening series, and the Producers' Forum screening and lecture series of visiting artists and media activists. Additionally, Scribe produces the Documentary History Project for Youth, an annual production workshop for middle and high school students.
If you are interested in attending one of our workshops, would like to participate in one of our programs, or simply want to find out more about us, feel free to give us a call, or stop by at our Center City Philadelphia location we are open from 11 am to 7 pm. You can also e-mail us at inquiry@scribe.org.
